A foreign transaction carries two charges: the issuer's own markup, and the card network's cross-currency charge. These two cards zero the same one — the first. ADCB's Schedule of Fees sets the Traveller's margin at 0% against 2.99% on its other cards; Sinder's 0% is its own markup on the first AED 40,000 a month. Neither waives the network's charge, so on foreign spend they cost the same. They are not the same product, though: the Traveller is a credit card with a credit line and a rewards programme, and Sinder is a debit card spending your own balance.

What each costs to spend abroad

Both cards cost the same on foreign spend at AED 10,000 a month. Two charges land on the same statement line: the issuer's own markup and the card network's cross-currency charge. A card advertising 0% has usually zeroed the first of them. One of these draws on a credit line and the other on your own balance, so cost is one part of the comparison rather than all of it.

Sinder Founder Card vs ADCB Traveller Credit Card: FAQ

Common questions about choosing between Sinder Founder Card and ADCB Traveller Credit Card.

It has no ADCB markup. The Schedule of Fees puts the card's foreign currency transaction margin at 0% while other ADCB cards pay 2.99%. The same document says that margin is levied on the rate the card scheme provider selects and applies, and ADCB does not waive the scheme's own charge — so foreign spend still costs something. Sinder is in the same position for the same reason.

The same on both: about AED 1,380 a year. Sinder is inside its AED 40,000 allowance so it adds no markup, and the Traveller's ADCB margin is 0% — but neither waives the card network's charge, so both price at the scheme's rate. The table above shows where they diverge, which is above Sinder's ceiling.

The ADCB Traveller requires AED 20,000 a month in salary and costs AED 1,575 a year. Sinder has no salary requirement at all - a debit card lends nothing, so there is no income to qualify - and no annual fee. Issuer onboarding checks still apply to both.

At AED 40,000 of foreign spend a month. Below it Sinder adds no markup and the Traveller's ADCB margin is 0%, so both price at the card network's rate. Above it Sinder marks up the excess — 0.5% on weekdays, 1.5% at weekends — while the Traveller's rate does not change with volume, which makes the Traveller the cheaper of the two from that point on.

It is a credit card with a rewards programme, so foreign purchases earn like any other spend, and the card adds lounge access and travel cover. Sinder publishes no earn rate at all — its case is the cost side, not the return side.

Sinder charges 1% capped at AED 25, plus whatever the ATM operator charges. On the Traveller a withdrawal is a cash advance, which carries a separate fee and accrues interest from the day it is taken rather than after a grace period.
