The HSBC Savings Account, which the bank also calls the Regular Savings Account, is an instant-access account for money you set aside. You can pay in and withdraw whenever you like, including cash at branches and ATMs, and it comes with a Visa debit card. It can be held in AED, USD, GBP, EUR or Chinese renminbi, on your own or jointly, and it has no cheque book. The standing rate is low, so the account is mainly about access and, while a campaign runs, the bonus on new money. HSBC's other savings account, the HSBC E-Saver, is online only, has no card and pays more on larger balances.

Fees and balance

The balance rule applies to Personal Banking customers who do not transfer a salary to HSBC. For them, an AED Savings Account needs an average balance of AED 3,000 across the month, and a month below that costs AED 26.25. Accounts in other currencies have their own level: 500 for US dollars, pounds and euros, and 5,000 for renminbi. Advance and Premier customers are judged on their overall eligibility criteria instead. If you close the account within 6 months of opening, HSBC charges AED 105, which is waived if you cancel within the 5 working day cooling-off period.

Account closure fee

AED 105

Charged only within 6 months of opening. Waived within 5 working days.

In plain words

Fall-below fee
A monthly charge for holding less than the balance the bank asks for. Here it is AED 26.25, charged in a month when your average balance for the month is under AED 3,000. The average is taken over every day of the month, so a few low days do not trigger the fee on their own. It is not charged in a month when you stay at or above that amount. More on this
Account closure fee
A one-off charge of AED 105 for closing the account within 6 months of opening it. Closing it later costs nothing. Closing within the first 5 working days carries no charge either. More on this

Eligible balance is the lower of the savings average-daily-balance increase and deposits total-relationship-balance increase over 31 July 2026. Bonus interest is capped at AED 5,000 per month. Loan, mortgage, overdraft proceeds and maturing or early-broken investments and term deposits are excluded. The accounts must stay active and meet eligibility through the campaign and until all bonus interest is credited; closing them forfeits the bonus.

In plain words

Annual rate
The rate is quoted for a full year. Money held for part of a year earns the matching part of it. More on this

Money you add on top of what you already held with the bank. A rate marked for new funds is paid on that added amount only, not on your existing balance. More on this
Bonus rate
A rate paid on top of the account's standard rate when you meet its condition. The two are added together for the interest you earn. More on this

The base rate is worked out on the lowest balance you held during each month and paid in January and July. The bonus is earned only on new money in an AED Savings Account. HSBC compares each campaign month with 31 July 2026 in two ways: how much your average daily savings balance has grown, and how much your total deposits with HSBC have grown. The bonus is paid on the lower of the two. Moving money from an HSBC current account into savings therefore does not count as new. Each month's bonus is credited on the first working day of the following month.

Good to know

Good option for

You want savings you can reach by card, cash or transfer at any time, in dirhams or a foreign currency, and you have new money to bring to HSBC while the bonus runs.

Consider another account if

You want a higher rate on money that is already at HSBC, since the base rate is 0.01% a year. Compare the savings accounts list or an HSBC Term Deposit.

Limits on the bonus

Bonus interest is capped at AED 5,000 a month. Money drawn from an HSBC personal loan, mortgage or overdraft is excluded, and so are funds from a maturing or early-broken term deposit or investment. Savings in other currencies, and new money placed in a current account, E-Saver or term deposit, earn no bonus. If you close the account before the last bonus has been credited, you forfeit it.

0.01% a year as the base rate, calculated on the minimum monthly balance. From 1 August to 31 October 2026 an additional 5% a year bonus applies to eligible new money in AED.

It is paid on new money only. For each month of the campaign, HSBC takes the increase in your average daily savings balance over 31 July 2026 and the increase in your total deposits with HSBC over the same date, and pays 5% a year on whichever is lower. The bonus is capped at AED 5,000 a month.

Base interest is paid into the account twice a year, in January and July. Bonus interest is calculated on the last day of each campaign month and credited on the first working day of the next month, to your most recently opened AED current or savings account.

If you are a Personal Banking customer without a salary transfer to HSBC, a month with an average balance under AED 3,000 costs AED 26.25. The test uses the monthly average, not the lowest day.

Yes. You get an international Visa debit card and a free supplementary debit card. There is no cheque book on a savings account.

Yes. Joint AED Savings Accounts and minor accounts are within the campaign, and if you hold more than one Savings Account all of them are eligible.

Wait until every bonus payment has been credited. Your accounts must stay active and meet their eligibility criteria through the campaign and until the final credit, and closing before then forfeits the bonus. A closure within 6 months of opening also costs AED 105.
