Liv Multicurrency Account

Hold US dollars, euros, pounds, Australian and Canadian dollars beside your AED account and spend them on the same Liv debit card without converting.

Open account

Opened from inside the Liv app. You need a Liv Primary Account first.

KREDIT

Liv asks for this on the Contact details screen when you open your account.

The Liv Multicurrency Account holds five currencies — US dollars, euros, pounds, Australian dollars and Canadian dollars — alongside your dirham balance. Spending in a currency you already hold avoids the 3.14% foreign transaction fee on the Liv Primary Account, because no conversion takes place. On AED 3,000 of foreign spend in a month, that is about AED 94 saved.

The account does nothing for spending in other currencies such as Thai baht or Indian rupees, which still convert and still carry the fee. Check that the currency you actually spend is on the list before treating this as a travel account.

Benefits

Five Foreign Currencies

USD, EUR, GBP, AUD and CAD on your existing Liv debit card

Each currency is its own account. A transaction debits the matching currency automatically, so there is no second card to carry and no manual switching.

No Foreign Transaction Fee

International card spend carries no foreign exchange fee

Spending from a currency you already hold avoids the conversion entirely. On the AED account the same spend carries Liv's 3.14% foreign transaction fee.

Automatic AED Fallback

Short on a currency? The AED account covers the transaction

If the currency account has insufficient funds the transaction is taken from your AED account instead, so a payment does not fail while you are abroad.

Interest On Eligible Currencies

Up to 2.75% a year, calculated daily and paid monthly

Not every currency earns a rate. Liv publishes which ones do, and at what rate, on its interest-rate page.

Rates

Eligible currencies earn up to 2.75% a year, calculated daily and paid monthly. Not every currency qualifies, and Liv publishes the list of qualifying currencies separately. If interest is the priority, the Goal Account pays more in dirhams and carries no currency risk.

2.75%

Eligible currencies

Up to this rate. Calculated on the end-of-day balance and credited monthly; not all five currencies earn a rate.

Fees

You still convert AED into the foreign currency at some point. The account moves that conversion from the moment of purchase to the moment of funding, which helps if you fund when the rate is favourable and hurts if you fund reactively at the airport. It is a timing tool, not a discount.

The daily and monthly purchase ceilings sit per currency, not across the account, so a single large purchase abroad is the case that meets them. Past the ceiling the transaction falls back to AED and its ordinary foreign transaction charge, which is the outcome the account exists to avoid.

Free

Account fee

No opening fee, no monthly fee, and no minimum balance on the currency account.

0%

FX fee

Nothing is converted, so nothing is charged. Spending a currency you do not hold converts from AED at 3.14%.

Good to know

Cash and card access

There are no ATM withdrawals from a currency balance. You withdraw dirhams from your Liv account as normal, and the withdrawal converts. This is not a way to draw foreign cash cheaply.

There is no separate card. The same Liv debit card debits whichever currency matches the transaction and falls back to AED when a balance is short, so nothing declines because the wrong wallet was not topped up.

Frequently asked questions

Get answers to common questions about the Liv Multicurrency Account

US dollars, euros, pounds sterling, Australian dollars and Canadian dollars.

No. Your existing Liv debit card works with every currency account, and the right one is debited automatically.

The transaction is taken from your AED account instead, so the payment goes through rather than declining.

No. ATM withdrawals are not available from a Multicurrency Account. You withdraw AED from your Liv Current or Savings Account as normal.

Yes, AED 15,000 a day and AED 50,000 a month per currency account, for online and in-store purchases.

On eligible currencies, up to 2.75% a year, calculated on the end-of-day balance and paid monthly. Liv publishes which currencies qualify.

Only if you spend in one of the five supported currencies. Spending in Thai baht, Indian rupees or anything else still converts from AED and still carries the 3.14% foreign transaction fee.

Yes, when you fund the account. The conversion moves from the moment you pay to the moment you top up, which helps if you choose your timing and does not if you top up in a hurry.

No. ATM withdrawals are not available from a Multicurrency Account. You withdraw dirhams from your Liv Current or Savings Account, which converts at that point.

One per available currency — US dollars, euros, pounds sterling, Australian dollars and Canadian dollars. Each has its own balance and its own daily and monthly purchase limits.

Only eligible ones, at up to 2.75% a year. Liv publishes which currencies qualify and their current rates on its interest-rate page rather than on the product page.
