Liv Primary Account

A fully digital current account opened from the Liv X app in minutes, with a free debit card, instant activation, and no branch visits required.

Liv asks for this on the Contact details screen when you open your account.

The Liv Primary Account is free for most people who use it as their main account, and AED 25 a month for those who do not. Four conditions each waive the fee on their own, and only one is needed: a salary transfer of AED 5,000 or more, debit card spend of AED 2,500 or more in the month, an active Liv credit card, or an average monthly balance of AED 3,000. Students aged up to 24 pay nothing regardless.

Benefits

Free Debit Card

Free debit card with unlimited withdrawals at Emirates NBD ATMs

The first debit card is free; replacements cost AED 25. Withdrawals are free at Emirates NBD and Islamic ATMs, AED 2 at other UAE ATMs, and AED 6 in GCC countries.

Liv X Mobile App

Complete digital banking with no branch visits

All banking services run through the Liv X app (iOS 9+ or Android 5.0+): statements, transfers, service requests, and spend tracking.

Quick Remittances

Free local transfers and fast international remittances

Local transfers are free. International remittances to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines cost AED 9.90, the UK AED 10, and other countries AED 20.

Instant IBAN & Account Details

Share your IBAN and SWIFT code immediately for deposits and payments

Access your IBAN and SWIFT code straight from the app for salary transfers and bill payments, no branch visit needed.

Bill Splitting

Split expenses with friends directly in the app

Divide shared costs with others in-app. Utility bill payments made through the app are free.

Aani Instant Payments

Send and receive instantly via the UAE's Aani network

Aani settles between UAE banks in seconds using a mobile number rather than an IBAN, so local transfers do not wait on a batch window.

Salary Transfer Benefits

Transferring your salary waives the fee and lifts your savings rate

A salary transfer of AED 5,000 or more waives the monthly fee. On Liv Max it also lifts the Goal Account rate from 3.5% to 4% a year on balances up to AED 500,000, and adds 0.5% to the fixed deposit rate.

Classic Plan

The default plan — AED 25 a month, or free on a AED 3,000 balance

The default plan. Goal Account savings have earned no interest since March 2026 and fixed deposits pay 2.25%, with FX at standard rates. A Liv Cashback+ card costs AED 735 to take out, and a personal loan carries a 1% processing fee.

Liv Max Plan

AED 39 a month, or free on a AED 30,000 balance

The paid upgrade, AED 39 a month. Goal Accounts earn 3.5% on the first AED 500,000, or 4% with a salary transfer. Six remittance corridors lose their bank charge, the Cashback+ joining fee is waived for a year, and the debit card becomes metal.

The Classic plan has paid no interest on Goal Accounts since 1 March 2026. Liv Max is what earns a rate here.

Fees

Ranked by how easily people meet them, the salary transfer is first. If your employer pays you into Liv, the fee question closes permanently, and it also lifts the Goal Account rate on Liv Max from 3.5% to 4%. Card spend is second: AED 2,500 a month is a normal grocery-and-fuel figure for a single person, but it resets every month, so a quiet month means a charge. The balance route is third, because AED 3,000 sitting idle is the most expensive way to buy a fee waiver. The credit card route is last, since taking a card to avoid AED 300 a year only makes sense if you wanted the card anyway.

If you do end up paying the fee, check the Liv Max plan first: at AED 39 a month it replaces the AED 25 rather than adding to it, so the real cost of the upgrade is AED 14.

How to open

How to open a Liv Primary Account

1.Download the Liv X app and choose to open an account.
2.Choose the employment type that matches your Emirates ID. Pick what the EID says even if your day-to-day situation differs — a mismatch sends the application to manual review rather than instant approval.
3.Enter your monthly salary.
4.Enter your mobile number and email, then confirm both with the codes Liv sends. The Staff code field sits on this screen — enter your Kredit code here.
5.Read and accept the terms and conditions, and the key declarations.
6.Fill in your personal information. Complete this while you are physically in the UAE.
7.Scan your Emirates ID and passport. Liv accepts photographs only — JPG or PNG, up to 10 MB. PDFs are rejected.
8.Enter your UAE residence address.
9.Add your employer, job title and salary, and choose whether to transfer your salary to Liv. Transferring it waives the monthly fee and removes the minimum balance.
10.Select your source of funds. Answer for your own circumstances: if your salary reaches you through a UAE bank, that is the UAE Banks option. Picking cash or an exchange house when neither applies to you sends the application to manual review.
11.Select your source of wealth.
12.Set your expected monthly incoming and outgoing transactions. Keep them consistent with the salary you entered — figures that do not line up with your stated income trigger manual review.
13.Take a selfie for the facial check. Good light, no mask or glasses, phone held slightly to one side at roughly 45 degrees.
14.Choose whether to add Liv Max. Selecting it during onboarding starts you on two free cycles.
15.Set your password. The account opens straight away with its IBAN and a free debit card.

Good to know

Who the account does not suit

The account is a poor fit for two groups. If you are self-employed or paid from abroad, no salary transfer will land, so you rely on card spend or a held balance every month. If you want a second account for a specific purpose, such as holding money aside or receiving occasional transfers, the fee applies to a balance doing nothing, and a fee-free savings account fits better.

The AED 3,000 is not a minimum balance

The AED 3,000 is not a minimum balance. Nothing has to be held to open or keep the account, and Liv will not close it if the balance reaches zero. Several comparison sites publish the AED 2,500 card-spend condition as a minimum balance, which is a different number for a different thing. The only consequence of a low balance here is the AED 25, and only if none of the other three conditions is met.

Frequently asked questions

Get answers to common questions about the Liv Primary Account

Download the Liv X app, follow the guided setup, upload your Emirates ID, complete identity verification, and sign digitally. The account opens in minutes with no paperwork.

There's no minimum balance to keep the account open. Keeping an average monthly balance of AED 3,000 waives the AED 25 monthly fee.

The AED 25 monthly fee is waived if you transfer a monthly salary of AED 5,000 or more, spend at least AED 2,500 on your debit card, hold an active Liv Credit Card, or maintain an average monthly balance of AED 3,000. Students aged up to 24 are always exempt.

No. The Primary Account doesn't earn interest. A separate Liv Goal Account earns interest on savings set aside for specific goals.

Liv Max is an optional subscription on top of the account, at AED 39 a month. It's waived while your average monthly balance is AED 30,000 or above. Selecting it during onboarding starts you on two free cycles before billing begins.

Goal Account savings earn 3.5% a year on balances up to AED 500,000, rising to 4% if your salary is transferred to Liv. The Classic plan has paid nothing on Goal Accounts since March 2026, so this is the whole rate rather than an uplift. Instant Interest Fixed Deposits pay 3.25% instead of 2.25%, or 3.5% with a salary transfer. FX moves to preferential rates with free DirectRemit. The AED 735 joining fee on a Liv Cashback+ credit card is waived for the first year, and a personal loan's 1% processing fee entirely. Support becomes 24/7 by phone.

It depends on what you keep in savings. The subscription costs AED 468 a year, and the Classic plan now pays nothing on Goal Accounts, so the full 3.5% counts: roughly AED 13,400 of Goal Account savings covers it on interest alone, or about AED 11,700 if your salary is transferred and the rate is 4%. Below that it is worth it only if you are also taking the credit card joining-fee waiver or the deposit and FX benefits. Above AED 30,000 average balance the subscription costs nothing anyway.

A salary transfer of AED 5,000 or more waives the account's AED 25 monthly fee, so you no longer need to hold an average balance of AED 3,000 to avoid it. On Liv Max it also lifts the Goal Account rate on balances up to AED 500,000 from 3.5% to 4% a year, and adds 0.5% to the Instant Interest Fixed Deposit rate.

Closing within 6 months of opening incurs an AED 50 fee (waived for customers under 24). Contact Liv support to request closure once outstanding charges are settled.

Yes. The first debit card is free with unlimited withdrawals at Emirates NBD ATMs, and the first cheque book is free for salary accounts. UAE residents aged 18 or over with a valid Emirates ID can open the account, one per Emirates ID.
