ruya Wakala Investment Deposit is a Sharia-compliant term deposit from AED 5,000 for 1 day to 12 months, with expected profit paid when the term ends.
An existing account with Ruya is required, such as ruya Current Account.
A Wakala Investment Deposit is ruya's Islamic term deposit. Wakala means agency. You hand the bank a sum of money and appoint it as your agent to invest that money in Sharia-compliant investments for a set term. When the term ends, the bank pays you the profit the investment made, up to the expected rate it quoted you at the start, and takes a fixed agency fee. If the investment earns more than the expected rate, the bank can keep the extra as a performance incentive.
You can deposit between AED 5,000 and AED 5,000,000, in AED only, for 1 day, 7 days, or 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. You need an active ruya Current Account or Savings Account, and the deposit is held in one name only.

The rates are expected rates. An expected rate is the rate the bank aims to pay and the ceiling on what you receive, and the amount actually paid is the profit the investment realised. As the investor you carry the risk of a loss, unless the bank was negligent or broke the terms.
Profit starts counting from the business day after you make the deposit and is paid with your money into your linked account at maturity. You cannot add to a deposit or take part of it out during the term.
ruya customers with AED 5,000 or more who want a Sharia-compliant deposit with an expected profit rate quoted at the start and a term as short as 1 month.
You may need the money before maturity, since early withdrawal needs the bank's agreement and can cost you the profit. The ruya Savings Account has no term.
ruya does not have to accept an early withdrawal, and partial withdrawals are never allowed. Where it agrees, the whole deposit is closed. No profit is paid on a 1-day or 7-day deposit withdrawn early, or on a longer deposit withdrawn within 30 days of its start. After 30 days, profit is recalculated at a reduced rate based on the nearest shorter standard term you completed, for the days the money was held.
Because the money is invested as soon as you place the deposit, you waive the usual 5 business day cooling-off period when you accept the Key Facts Statement.
