MCC 5521: Automobile and Truck Dealers (Used Only)

MCC 5521 classifies merchants recorded as automobile and truck dealers (used only). It describes the business accepting the payment, not the exact item you bought.

Most banks show a spending category in the app or statement instead of the four-digit MCC. Use that category to narrow down likely codes, then ask the issuer for the exact code on the posted transaction if you need to confirm it.

The MCC alone cannot establish eligibility. Check your card issuer's eligible codes and exclusions for the posted transaction; some transaction types earn no category bonus.

Card issuers can apply different reward rules to merchant codes, payment channels and excluded transactions. A checkout processed by another merchant account may also appear under another MCC.

MCC 5521 is listed as automobile and truck dealers (used only), while MCC 5511 is listed as car and truck dealers (new and used) sales, service, repairs, parts, and leasing. The merchant account that processes the payment determines which code appears.
