Why the MCC decides your reward at Rotana

The reward a card pays at Rotana depends on the merchant category code, not on what the shop sells. The code is a four-digit number the outlet's payment provider assigns, and your bank reads it to decide whether a payment counts as hotels spending or as general spend.
