The Emirates Islamic Current Account is an everyday account for salary, payments, transfers and cheques, run on Shariah principles. It works as Qard Hasan: the money you deposit is treated as a loan from you to the bank, which you can take back at any time. Because it is a loan and not an investment, the account pays no profit.

Dirham accounts come with a debit card and a cheque book. The account can also be opened in other major currencies, but those versions come without a card or cheque book. For a return on your balance, look at the bank's Investment Savings Account.

Fees and balance

Emirates Islamic charges AED 26.25 in a month when your average balance is under AED 3,000. Having your salary paid into the account removes the charge whatever your balance, and the bank also does not charge it while you hold an active finance from it.

The first cheque book is free and each one after that costs AED 26.25. In the first 6 months the bank may limit a cheque book to 10 leaves, depending on your rating with the credit bureau, and a returned cheque is reported to the bureau. Closing the account within 6 months of opening costs AED 105.

In plain words

Fall-below fee
A monthly charge for holding less than the balance the bank asks for. Here it is AED 26.25, charged in a month when your average balance for the month is under AED 3,000. The average is taken over every day of the month, so a few low days do not trigger the fee on their own. It is not charged in a month when you stay at or above that amount. More on this
