A day-to-day current account with a free debit card, cheque book, and fee-free 60-second international transfers to home accounts via DirectRemit.
The Emirates NBD Current Account is the bank's standard account for everyday money. Your salary comes in, and you pay, transfer and withdraw from it. The standard account is held in dirhams and comes with a debit card and a cheque book. A separate foreign currency version exists, without a card or cheque book.
The account pays no interest, so it is a place to run your month from and not a place to grow savings. For a return on money you leave untouched, the Emirates NBD Savings Account can sit alongside it.

The charge to watch is AED 26.25 a month. Emirates NBD applies it in a month when your average balance for that month is under AED 3,000. The test is the average across the month, not the lowest day.
Two groups do not pay it: customers on the Emirati package, and customers whose salary is paid into the account, on every package except Personal Banking Classic. Closing the account within 6 months of opening costs AED 105, which matters if you only need an account for a short stay.

Residents who want one main account for salary, bills and cheques, and who either have their salary paid into it or keep an average of AED 3,000 in it.
You want your balance to earn a return, or you expect to keep less than AED 3,000 in the account with no salary coming in. The no minimum balance accounts page lists accounts without that requirement.
Each returned cheque costs AED 105. Under UAE Central Bank instructions, the bank closes the account and adds it to the blacklist if 4 cheques are returned unpaid for insufficient balance within one year.
