HSBC Personal Banking Account is an everyday multi-currency account you open in the HSBC UAE app, even while your UAE residency is still in progress.
The Personal Banking Account is HSBC's entry-level everyday account. You apply in the HSBC UAE app, and once the account is open you can fund it and start using it. It works as a Global Money Account: one account number and IBAN that can hold up to 21 currencies, dirhams included, with a debit card for shops, online payments and ATMs. Dirhams are the primary currency, and cheques, direct debits and transfers to other UAE banks work in AED only. The account pays no interest. If you have a larger salary or balance, the HSBC Advance Account adds health, travel and investing perks in return for a tougher fee test.

There are two charges to know about. The first is a monthly fee of AED 26.25, charged in any month when the average balance in your AED account is below AED 3,000. It is an average across the month, so a few low days do not trigger it if the rest of the month is higher. You are exempt if your salary is AED 5,000 or less and you have declared this as your only account in the UAE. HSBC then sets no minimum balance. That exemption covers Global Money Accounts opened after 1 August 2026. The second charge is a closure fee of AED 105 if you close the account within 6 months of opening it. HSBC waives it if you cancel during the cooling-off period, which lasts 5 working days and starts the working day after the account opens.

HSBC UAE App
Apply, fund and manage the account in the app, with statements for the last 3 years.
You are new to the UAE and want an account before your Emirates ID arrives, or you want one app-based account for dirhams and foreign currencies with no salary transfer requirement.
You need a cheque book from the first day, want your balance to earn a return, or expect to average under AED 3,000 on a salary above AED 5,000. The no minimum balance accounts list has alternatives.
You do not have to wait for your Emirates ID to apply. HSBC opens the account if you are a UAE resident or your residency visa is being processed. From the day the account opens you have 75 days to give HSBC your residency visa and have your Emirates ID verified. Until then the account is not fully active. If the 75 days pass, you cannot use your cards or make digital payments until HSBC receives the Emirates ID, and the account may be blocked and later closed.
A Personal Banking Global Money Account does not come with a cheque book. If your salary is above AED 5,000 and you need cheques, you open a separate HSBC current account that supports them. Cheque books are in AED and need a valid residency visa, a verified Emirates ID and a satisfactory credit bureau score.
