SIB + Tabby Cashback: Does It Still Earn 10%?

Before paying Tabby with your SIB card, weigh the cashback on that repayment against any fee Tabby charges. The outcome depends on how SIB classifies your payment and which Tabby product you use. For the card's wider changes, read our SIB cashback update.

The result on AED 3,000

SIB offers 10% on eligible online and digital-wallet payments, capped at AED 300 per monthly statement. Its cashback terms also assign 0.5% to a group that includes merchant category code (MCC) 5999. Here is what each rate means on an AED 3,000 Tabby Card repayment with a 1% credit-card fee, before other spending uses the 10% cap:

How Tabby payments earn cashback

Repaying a Tabby Card balance is a separate transaction from the original purchase. For SIB cashback, what matters is how that repayment posts to your SIB card. The shop and its spending category describe the purchase, not the cashback SIB will award on the later repayment.

Customers have reported different cashback outcomes on Tabby payments. When a Tabby payment uses MCC 5999, SIB awards 0.5% cashback, including payments made online or through a digital wallet. Choosing Apple Pay or Samsung Wallet does not override SIB's excluded categories. A previous repayment that earned the higher rate does not settle what a later one will earn.

Use the category SIB confirms for your posted repayment, then compare that cashback with the fee Tabby charged. The table shows why this matters: at the lower SIB rate, the repayment fee is larger than the cashback. Check both amounts before choosing a credit card to repay Tabby.

What to check on your payment

  1. Wait for the SIB transaction to post. Note its date, amount and merchant description.
  2. Ask SIB for the MCC and cashback category applied to that transaction. Keep the bank's case reference if the answer differs from the cashback credited.
  3. Check your statement's cashback against the category SIB confirms. Remember that other eligible spending may already have used some of the AED 300 accelerated cashback cap.
  4. If you are repaying a Tabby Card, compare the cashback with the actual credit-card repayment fee shown by Tabby. If the fee is higher than the reward, the repayment loses money on this cashback calculation.

Pay the Tabby balance by its due date regardless of which method you choose. For SIB's other rates and exclusions, see our card details.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Customers have reported different outcomes. When a Tabby payment posts under MCC 5999, SIB awards 0.5% cashback. The card's 10% online rate does not override that category exclusion.

No. SIB's category exclusions apply to digital-wallet payments too. A Tabby payment posted under MCC 5999 earns 0.5%, even when paid through a wallet.

Wait for the transaction to post, then ask SIB for the MCC and cashback category applied to that specific payment. Give the bank the transaction date, amount and merchant description. The merchant name alone does not establish the cashback rate.

On an AED 3,000 Tabby Card repayment, a 1% fee costs AED 30. At the 0.5% cashback rate, you earn AED 15 and lose AED 15 after the fee. At the eligible 10% rate, you earn AED 300 and retain AED 270 after the fee, provided the full cashback cap is available.

The accelerated cashback cap is AED 300 per monthly statement cycle. AED 3,000 of eligible spending reaches it. Other eligible online or wallet purchases share that cap, so it is not a separate allowance for Tabby repayments.

Check the posted transaction and the cashback on your statement. Ask SIB to confirm the applied category, whether you had already reached the accelerated cashback cap, and whether a review is needed. Keep the case reference and pay your balances by their due dates while the bank investigates.
