Most UAE credit cards require a minimum salary of AED 5,000 a month.
See cardsOn a salary below that — around AED 1,000 to AED 4,000 — a mainstream unsecured card is usually out of reach, so the realistic routes are a debit or prepaid card, a buy-now-pay-later card, a credit card secured against a fixed deposit, or applying at the bank where your salary is already paid. The debit and prepaid options below use your own money and carry no salary requirement; the buy-now-pay-later option provides an interest-free instalment limit, subject to the provider's own eligibility check.

UAE Central Bank consumer-protection standards require banks to assess affordability before granting credit, and most issuers set the entry point for an unsecured credit card at around AED 5,000 a month. Below that, mainstream cashback and rewards cards are generally not available.
At AED 3,000 a mainstream unsecured credit card is unlikely. Some banks advertise cards from AED 3,000, but these are limited and approval is never guaranteed. The dependable routes are a debit or prepaid card that spends your own money, a buy-now-pay-later card that splits purchases into interest-free instalments (subject to the provider's eligibility check), or a card secured against a fixed deposit if a bank offers one.
At AED 4,000 you are closer to the entry threshold but still below most banks' unsecured minimum. Applying at the bank where your salary is credited gives the best chance, and a fixed-deposit-backed card remains an option. Reaching AED 5,000 is what unlocks the standard cashback and rewards cards.
Some banks may issue a credit card against money you place in a fixed deposit. The deposit is held as collateral and can determine the limit. It can help when an unsecured card is out of reach, but it does not remove the bank's identity, affordability, or credit-bureau checks, and approval remains the bank's decision.
Banks can see the income of their own salary-account holders directly, so applying where your salary is credited can make the application simpler. It does not override a card's published minimum salary or guarantee approval.
Once your salary reaches around AED 5,000, the full entry tier of free-for-life cashback cards opens up — so it is worth knowing what to apply for as you approach that threshold.
