MCC 5812: Restaurants

MCC 5812 classifies merchants recorded as eating places and restaurants. It describes the business accepting the payment, not the exact item you bought.

Most banks show a spending category in the app or statement instead of the four-digit MCC. Use that category to narrow down likely codes, then ask the issuer for the exact code on the posted transaction if you need to confirm it.

Card issuers can apply different reward rules to merchant codes, payment channels and excluded transactions. A checkout processed by another merchant account may also appear under another MCC.
