The ADCB Islamic Current Account is an everyday account run on Sharia principles. It works on a structure called Qard Hasan. In practice that means you lend your money to the bank for safekeeping, the bank guarantees it, and you can take it back whenever you like. Because it is a loan with no return attached, the account pays no profit. You use it the way you would any current account: salary in, then payments by debit card, cheque and transfer. It is open to UAE residents only, in dirhams, and the opening amount is AED 5,000. For a current-style account that does share profit, see the ADCB Islamic Elite Account.

Fees and balance

The monthly fee depends on your whole relationship with ADCB, not on this account alone. The bank sets one fee tier for you as a customer. You pay nothing when your total relationship balance is AED 20,000 or more, or when your employer credits a salary of AED 15,000 or more directly to an ADCB or ADCB Islamic account. A smaller salary also clears the fee if you hold a credit card or finance from ADCB Islamic Banking. A smaller salary without one of those costs AED 25 a month, and any other Aspire customer pays AED 100. The relationship balance counts your deposits and investments as well as the monthly average balance of your current and savings accounts. Salary paid in by cash or cheque is not treated as a salary transfer.

Good to know

Good option for

UAE residents who want a Sharia-compliant main account with a cheque book, and who will transfer their salary or hold AED 20,000 or more with ADCB.

Consider another account if

You want your balance to earn profit, or you would keep a small balance with no salary transfer and face the AED 100 monthly fee. Compare other Islamic accounts.

Closing the account

Closure is free in the first 30 days. Between 30 days and six months after opening, the charge is AED 105. ADCB Islamic Banking may also close a current account when cheques are returned unpaid, so keep enough in the account to cover any cheque you have written.
