CBD Current Account

CBD Current Account

CBD Current Account is an everyday AED account with a free debit card and a cheque book. An AED 5,000 average balance or a salary transfer avoids the fee.

CBD Current Account is the bank's standard account for daily money: salary, bills, card spending and transfers. It comes with a free debit card, a cheque book, and CBD Online and Mobile Banking, including a Budget and Track tool for following your spending. You do not need an opening deposit, and moving your salary to CBD is optional. For money you want to earn a regular return on, CBD has a separate Savings Account and a GreenGrowth Account. If you would rather open from your phone, the Digital Current Account follows the same balance rule.

Fees and balance

The account has one recurring charge to watch. In a month when your average balance is under AED 5,000, the bank charges AED 105. You avoid it by meeting any one of five conditions that month: keeping the AED 5,000 average, having a salary of AED 5,000 or more paid into CBD, holding an active CBD personal, auto or home loan, linking a funded CBD Investr account, or having opened the account as a bundle with a CBD credit card. One is enough. Closing the account inside its first six months costs AED 105, unless you close in the five working days after signing, when the bank refunds closure charges. The first cheque book costs AED 105 and later ones AED 157.50 each.

In plain words

Fall-below fee
A monthly charge for holding less than the balance the bank asks for. Here it is AED 105, charged in a month when your average balance for the month is under AED 5,000. The average is taken over every day of the month, so a few low days do not trigger the fee on their own. It is not charged in a month when you stay at or above that amount. More on this
Account closure fee
A one-off charge of AED 105 for closing the account within 6 months of opening it. Closing it later costs nothing. Closing within the first 5 working days carries no charge either. More on this
Opening amount and minimum balance
The opening amount (AED 0) is what you pay in to start the account. The minimum balance is what you keep in it afterwards. More on this

In plain words

The rate is quoted for a full year. Money held for part of a year earns the matching part of it. More on this

interest earned over time

The only rate attached to this account is a campaign rate, and it works differently from ordinary interest: it is paid on the increase in your balance from new money you bring to the bank, not on your whole balance. The increase is measured across your current and savings accounts and across your whole relationship including time deposits, and the lower figure counts, so moving money out of a CBD deposit into this account earns nothing.

Good to know

Good option for

Day-to-day banking in dirhams when you can keep AED 5,000 in the account on average, have a salary of AED 5,000 or more to transfer, or already hold a CBD loan.

Consider another account if

Your balance will often sit under AED 5,000 and none of the waiver conditions fit you. A month like that costs AED 105, so start with accounts that have no minimum balance.

Cooling-off period

You have five full business days from signing to change your mind. If you close the account in that time, the bank refunds any closure charges. Transfers and currency exchange are not covered, because they are processed as soon as you send them.

Frequently asked questions

Get answers to common questions about the CBD Current Account

Yes. Salary transfer is optional. Without it, you avoid the AED 105 monthly charge by keeping an average balance of AED 5,000, holding an active CBD personal, auto or home loan, linking a funded CBD Investr account, or opening the account together with a CBD credit card.

The bank looks at your average balance across the month, not the lowest point. If that average is under AED 5,000 and you meet none of the waiver conditions, AED 105 is charged for that month. A salary transfer of AED 5,000 or more in the same month removes the charge.

No. CBD does not require an initial deposit for a Current Account. The AED 5,000 figure is a monthly average to hold once the account is running, not an amount to pay in on day one.

Opt in by sending INDP by SMS to 4266 from your registered mobile number by 31 January 2027, then add new AED funds. The rate is paid on the rise in your average balance over your September 2026 average, provided the rise is AED 10,000 or more. Money moved from another CBD account does not count, and the interest is credited within 30 calendar days after the campaign ends.

Only in the first six months, when closing costs AED 105. If you close within five working days of signing, the bank refunds closure charges.

A completed account opening form, on paper or digital, plus your national ID or valid passport, residence visa and Emirates ID. The account is open to UAE nationals and UAE residents.
