DIB Al Islami 2-in-1 Account

DIB Al Islami 2-in-1 Account

The 2-in-1 is a current account and a savings account in one. You get a debit card on request and can apply for a cheque book, and the balance also earns profit. It works on Mudaraba. You place your money with the bank, the bank invests it in a shared pool alongside other depositors' funds, and the net profit is split between depositors and the bank in agreed shares. Nobody fixes the rate in advance. The bank announces the profit each quarter once the pool's results are known, which is why the rate you see is a past, declared rate. The account is available in dirhams and US dollars. If you do not need cheques, compare the Al Islami Savings Account, which earns profit from a lower balance.

Fees and balance

Two different balance tests apply to this account, and they are easy to confuse. The maintenance fee looks at your average balance: under AED 3,000 across the month and the bank charges AED 26.25. Profit looks at something else, the lowest balance on any single day. So an account can escape the fee and still earn nothing that month. The fee is switched off on the account a DIB finance is repaid from, on the account linked to a Wakala or Investment Deposit, and for Aayan and Wajaha customers. Close the account within 6 months of opening and AED 26.25 is charged.

In plain words

Fall-below fee
A monthly charge for holding less than the balance the bank asks for. Here it is AED 26.25, charged in a month when your average balance for the month is under AED 3,000. The average is taken over every day of the month, so a few low days do not trigger the fee on their own. It is not charged in a month when you stay at or above that amount. More on this
Account closure fee
A one-off charge of AED 26.25 for closing the account within 6 months of opening it. Closing it later costs nothing. More on this
Opening amount and minimum balance
The opening amount (AED 0) is what you pay in to start the account. The minimum balance is what you keep in it afterwards. More on this

In plain words

Profit rate
An Islamic account does not pay interest. It pays you a share of what the bank earns on your money. The profit rate is that share as a yearly percentage of your balance. More on this
Which balance counts
The return is worked out on your average balance across the month, so money held for only part of the month counts in proportion. More on this

Withdrawals count whether they are made at a teller or through electronic channels. In a month that misses the balance or the withdrawal condition, the bank treats the account as a plain current account, with no share of the profit. Because the money is invested, a loss in the pool would be carried by depositors in proportion to their stake, except where it results from the bank's misconduct, negligence or breach of contract.

Good to know

Good option for

People who keep AED 10,000 or more in their main account and want cheques and profit from one account.

Consider another account if

Your balance regularly dips under AED 10,000 or you withdraw more than twice a month. In those months the account earns nothing, and a plain current account does the same job.
