The ADCB Islamic Active Saver is a Sharia-compliant savings pot that sits beside your main account. You need a current or savings account with ADCB first, and you move money between the two by transfer. The Active Saver has no debit card and no cheque book. What it offers is a higher expected profit rate than the basic ADCB Islamic Savings Account, monthly payouts instead of quarterly ones, and a calculation that follows your balance day by day. It is for UAE residents, and a dirham account opens with AED 1,000.

Fees and balance

Adding an Active Saver does not bring a new monthly charge. You continue under the ADCB Islamic relationship fee that already covers you as a customer. That fee disappears when the total you hold with the bank reaches AED 20,000, when a salary of AED 15,000 or more is credited directly, or when a smaller salary is paired with a credit card or finance from ADCB Islamic Banking. When none applies, the fee is AED 25 a month for a customer transferring a smaller salary, or AED 100 a month for other Aspire customers. Closing an Active Saver after its first 30 days and before six months costs AED 105.

Profit rate
An Islamic account does not pay interest. It pays you a share of what the bank earns on your money. The profit rate is that share as a yearly percentage of your balance. More on this
Balance bands
The rate changes with how much you hold. Each band is a range of balance with its own rate. More on this
Which balance counts
The return is worked out each day on what is in the account at the end of that day, so money counts from the day it arrives until the day it leaves. More on this
